Well those old yellow pages are way out of date, as people today turn to Yelp to help them find what they’re looking for. In fact, in just the month of December 2010, one Yelper contacted a local business  every two seconds – and those are just the connections made vis Yelp’s mobile applications.

Yelp Mobile saw extensive use helping people decide what restaurants to dine in, what shops to visit, and what leisure activities to engage in. Going back to their December 2010 data, they found that:

  • Every 30 seconds, a Yelp mobile app user uploads a photo
  • Over 1/3 of all Yelp.com searches originated from a Yelp mobile application
  • Every two seconds, a Yelp user-generated directions to a local business
  • Yelp mobile apps got used by 3.2 million unique visitors

This is in keeping with the growing popularity of Yelp’s mobile apps for Android-powered smartphones and Apple’s iPhone and iPad. In fact, Yelp for the iPhone has been ranked as the #15 all-time top downloaded app, while the iPad version sits at the #5 spot for that device.

And these are just the users logging in via mobile apps. Over 45 million unique visitors have used Yelp’s 15 million reviews to help them make decisions regarding their purchases in just the last 30 days.
